Viking ships were used for raging war and for transporting goods, from the Viking age to the early Middle Ages. Smaller and longer, and therefore faster, ships worked wonders during wars, while broader and deeper ships, also known as knars, were used for shipping. The special curvature on the front (and often the back) allowed the ships to sail through particularly rough waters.
