Norse god Freyr

In Norse mythology, Freyr is one of the Æsir (the gods), and is seen as the god of fertility, peace, and wealth. He is the brother of Freyja, the son of Njord, and lives in Alfheim, which he received as a gift from the Æsir when his first tooth came in. Freyr owns several powerful possessions, including a sword that automatically fights against giants when wielded by a skilled hand; the boar Gullinbursti, which pulls his chariot faster than any horse and lights up dark places; and the ship Skidbladnir, which always has a favorable wind, has room for all the gods, and can also be folded up and placed in a pouch when not in use.

After Freyr sits on Odin's throne, Hlidskjalf, from where he can see the entire world, he spots the giantess Gerd and immediately falls deeply in love. He sends his loyal servant Skirnir to propose to Gerd on his behalf, lending him his special sword. As a result, he is without it during Ragnarok, when he faces Surt in battle — and Freyr loses the fight.
